Bharti Airtel Foundation and Department of Basic Education Launch Astronomy Club in Lucknow to Promote Space Science Among Young Learners

Bharti Airtel Foundation, through its Quality Support Program (QSP), has expanded its Astronomy Club initiative as part of a broader effort to bring the wonders of space science to schoolchildren across India. This initiative aims to create joyful and holistic learning environments in partner government schools by fostering curiosity and interest in space science among students. Similar clubs have also been introduced in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Meghalaya, with plans to expand the program to other regions, bringing the excitement of astronomy to young learners across the country.

The launch event at the Block Resource Centre in Malihabad, Lucknow saw enthusiastic participation from students, educators, and community members. More than 70 students, accompanied by over 40 parents, actively participated and benefitted from the program. The event was graced by Guest cum Host Mr. Padm Shekhar Maurya, Block Education Officer - Malihabad, along with Program Coordinator Mr. Brajesh Bharadwaj from Bharti Airtel Foundation. Special sessions were led by Mr. Sumit Kumar Srivastava, Head of the Indira Gandhi Planetarium, in collaboration with the Council of Science and Technology, Lucknow, who introduced students and teachers to telescope handling and stargazing.
Over 25 government schools benefited from this Astronomy Club, which included workshops, night sky observation sessions, and engaging discussions about planets, stars, satellites, and the universe. The program was designed to give students hands-on learning experiences while nurturing their natural curiosity and scientific thinking. Education officials appreciated the initiative’s ability to bring space science to classrooms in a fun and practical way. The Astronomy Club hopes to reach even more schools in the coming months, building a generation of young dreamers, explorers, and future scientists. The program’s successful rollout in other states reinforces Bharti Airtel Foundation’s commitment to enhancing educational experiences across India.
