Youth at Risk: Fortis Hospital Greater Noida Treats Rising Cases of Heart Attacks in Individuals Aged 25-30
Greater Noida : Heart attacks among young individuals aged 25 to 30 are becoming increasingly common. Such incidents are reported frequently. Recently, Fortis Greater Noida has witnessed similar cases. Two young men, aged 26 and 29, who were treated for heart attacks at the hospital, highlight this growing concern. Fortunately, timely and appropriate medical intervention has ensured their recovery. Around 40% of cases in the hospital's cardiology OPD are from young individuals, clearly indicating that the youth's heart health is at risk.
Stressful lifestyles, smoking, dietary changes, and heavy gym workouts have significantly contributed to the rise in heart disease among this age group.
Dr. Shantanu Singhal, Consultant Cardiology at Fortis Greater Noida, said, “Recently, we treated two patients aged 25 to 30. One had a single artery blockage, while the other had all three arteries blocked. The primary reasons for such severe cardiac issues at such a young age are an unhealthy lifestyle and stress.”
Rohit Kumar, a 26-year-old, suffered a cardiac arrest while exercising in the gym. Similarly, Abhishek Chauhan, 29, who had recently undergone normal cardiac checkups, also experienced a heart attack. His artery was found to be 100% blocked. Dr. Singhal added, “Fitness is not just about physical strength but also includes cardio exercises.”
Dr. Singhal emphasized, “Smoking and alcohol are the biggest threats to the heart. Young individuals should avoid them and undergo regular health checkups. The misconception of alcohol being ‘healthy’ often leads to addiction, which severely impacts the heart.”
Explaining the rise in heart attacks during winter, Dr. Shantanu said, “Cold weather causes blood vessels to constrict, leading to increased blood pressure. Dehydration and thicker blood can further heighten the risk of heart attacks. Doctors advise wearing warm clothes and staying hydrated during winter.”
Regular tests like ECG, Echo, and TMT can help assess heart health. If there is a family history of heart disease, undergoing a CT Coronary Angiography may also be necessary.
Experts believe that regular cardio exercises, stress management, and adopting a healthy lifestyle can help prevent such problems. Extra precautions should be taken during winter, such as wearing warm clothes, staying hydrated, and opting for preventive checkups.
